Supporting people with Dementia through visual arts
Arts and Agency for elder people from the Liverpool African communities
SOLA is working with Liverpool African Elders Luncheon Club to deliver arts & crafts activities. These activities help memory recall, memory retention, motor-neuron skills, self-agency and empowerment, self-expression, a greater self-value, belonging and lots of laughter! This is a lovely group of people of around 14 with varying abilities and skills.
At the moment the group are using wire and acrylic resign, glass painting and multimedia to create 3D flower decorations.
We have been working with the group over the past 7 years and always enjoy every minute.
The project is funded by Liverpool City Council Grassroots Grants and further supported by Granby Toxteth Development Trust and Nigeria House. There are many local volunteers who are keenly helping out.
The project runs until the end of March for this stage.
